HP48 versus HP49

HP 49G - Key Differences
from the HP 48G Series

Configuration
Larger Memory Capacity
  • 1.5MB* of User Memory allows you to run and store more user & third party system RPL programs, games and software applications. * 512KB RAM and 1MB Flash ROM.

Flash Technology
  • 2MB of Flash ROM that enables future electronic software upgrades, eliminating the need to buy a new calculator every time there are any software upgrades, enhancements or improvements.

Physical Features
Leading-Edge Design
  • With smoother edges, softer curves, and a sleek, sturdy design, the HP 49G is ideal for either hand-held or desktop use.

Who says calculators have to look dull and dreary!
  • Chances are, if you are a HP 49G user, you will be using it a lot! So why should you have to keep looking at something that is dull and dreary! Of course, mathematics is serious business, but it doesn't have to be boring. The HP 49G comes in an appealing, light metallic blue with a matching translucent blue slide-on cover that helps to minimize screen and keyboard damage.

Tired of intimidating and confusing keyboard clutter?
  • The user-friendly HP 49G keyboard incorporates the strengths of the existing HP 48G Series RPN keyboard layout and the more familiar algebraic style keyboard layouts on the HP 38G, TI-83, and TI-89. Alphabet letters now appear clearly on the keys, thus reducing keyboard clutter. Larger keys with softer edges, and improved key spacing, minimize undesired key presses.

Crystal Clear Contrast
  • More like a computer screen, the HP 49G's new higher contrast screen is easier-to-read.

Faster, Timely Unit-to-Unit Communication
  • Exchange programs, data and games with other HP 49Gs and HP 48G Series models quickly, by means of a unit-to-unit link cable. No infrared, equals piece of mind for those teachers/ lecturers/professors wishing to avoid untimely communication.

Graphing Features
Expand your Plotting Possibilities
  • With the HP 49G, choose between the HP 48G Series Plotting ÔInput FormsÕ or if you prefer, plot, view and edit multiple functions quickly and simply with the new ÔY=Õ Plot Functions screen.
  Operating Features
See more on the big screen
  • Whether you are working with a large expression or program, or multiple equations, expressions and sub-expressions, you can minimize the need to scroll by selecting a smaller font size. There are four font sizes (6x4, 6x6, 7x6, or 8x6) and styles to choose from.

Customize your Inputs and Outputs
  • Choose from three input modes according to your preference: familiar textbook, traditional algebraic or efficient RPN, and two default-screen history display modes: textbook or algebraic. The textbook mode allows you to input and display equations and expressions as they appear in textbooks or on the blackboard.

Faster Navigation
  • Navigating around the enhanced HP 49G User Interface is between 10 and 100 times faster than that of the existing HP 48G Series.

Learn from History
  • Unlike the HP 48G Series stack, where only the results are displayed, the HP 49G default-screen history also displays and retains the how (e.g. equations, and expressions), so you can see where you went wrong, or how you got the result. Even after power off and on again, the history will still be there, just the way you left it.

Fast, Flexible and Intelligent Editor
  • Edit expressions, text, graphs and programs quickly and easily just the way you want to. More than just a passive editor you can isolate and evaluate sub-expressions as well as cut, paste, and copy objects, just like on a computer. Unsure how to correctly enter an equation or expression? The intelligent HP 49G editor automatically inserts missing parentheses and syntax, both in real-time.

Math Features
Dynamic Algebra and Calculus
  • With a built-in Computer Algebra System (CAS), the HP 49G boasts truly dynamic symbolic manipulation and solving. Working with complex equations and expressions? No problem, the HP 49G automatically prompts you to switch to complex mode.

Learn how to get the right answer
  • Choose the step-by-step mode for dynamic derivation, integration and linear algebra problem solving. All steps and results are displayed in textbook mode for easy viewing and understanding. After all, in a text or exam, the answer is only part of the solution.

Statistical Features
Now you can use the data descriptions to make inferences
  • The HP 49G goes one step further than the HP 48G Series by allowing you to make and measure inferences about the population of interest with hypothesis tests and confidence intervals. Sample data input, editing, plotting and viewing has never been easier with new create a table, and table setting options.
